BIOgeography and biodiversity of GREENland (BIO-GREEN)
BIO-GREEN is an international consortium of terrestrial ecologists and evolutionary biologists working in Greenland and the wider Arctic and other polar areas.
Combining sampling a wide range of terrestrial biota in habitats around Greenland with state-of-the-art techniques based on Next Generation Sequencing, we seek to: - decipher which factors drive terrestrial diversity and distribution patterns in Greenland and the wider Arctic - gain a better understanding of the evolutionary history of biota in Greenland - predict how Greenlandic terrestrial biodiversity may change under future climate change and biological invasions |
|
We anticipate that BIO-GREEN will establish new baseline data on the changes in terrestrial biodiversity of Greenland - in the past, present and future -, which will enable the scientific community and Greenlandic authorities to better predict the impacts of future climate change on Greenlandic plants and soils.
We additionally hope to significant increase in the quality of projections of future Arctic carbon balance (including changes to plant growth and soil organic matter degradation). Read more about the scientific partners here |
